Few things are more boring than characters of this type I think. To create something interesting from this was(is) a challenge. Instinctively I want to punish him one way or another. And I think only teenage girl feel sympathy for guy's like this.

The stereotyp beach-dude weares bling-bling, tatoos and a obnoxious personality. I figured that any beach scenario needs one but I needed to find some twist to it somehow.
Again, i usually bring in very simple sketches in 3D software.This is the first and only sketch of the dude.
I thought that he needed to be wimpy one way or another. Very feminine is always fun and maybe that is what he is. A little bit hard to say in these renderings but I wanted some kind of action shot. So I made this sketch of him hurting his toe. It was not until in the 3D program I added the crab on it.

I also needed him as a good contrast to the geeky bikini girl. Something for her to go bananas about.

Cry Baby Joe is overly confident when things go smoothly to be transformed i to a little wimpy girl when something happens.
